Hut at Kildwick corner
This photograph was one a bundle loaned to the History Group recently for scanning. It was labelled "Hut at Kildwick corner". I've enhanced it and can say that it dates to August 1936 (there's a calendar on the wall !). But beyond that, there's very little known.
So, some questions:
- Where was the "hut" ? It has been suggested it was on the gable-end of the Old Smithy, looking up towards Kirkgate. Can anyone confirm ?
- Who was it for / what purpose did it serve ? Again, the suggestion is that it was simply somewhere people could gather for a chat; a bit like the shelters you see on proms at the seaside.
- Who looked after it ? For example, who changed the calendar over ?
- When was it put up / taken down ?
- Can anyone identify any of the men pictured ? There may be a Whitaker or a Tillotson.
If you think you can help us resolve any of these questions, please email history@farnhill.co.uk.
